To paint or not to paint?

And if so, what color? White, black, or some funky crazy color like fuchsia?

Additional info: Both pieces are solid wood Craigslist finds. They do have some bumps and bruises. The dresser will be used as a buffet in my dining room and will store my nice dishes. The armoire is what we like to refer to as the "bonus" piece as we aren't really sure where to put it. We went ahead and snagged it because we had the truck and, well, because it is a solid walnut piece for $35. Yes, that's thirty-five dollars.

So what do you think? Paint them, touch-up the bumps and leave as-is, or something else?

I think I would go with a high gloss black. It would be nice to salvage the walnut, but I am at a loss as to how to that unless your completely refinish them. Lots of work, but beautiful results. Looks like a great bargain though! Terry B

Nice find! Black. I'd paint it black and add some funky detailing maybe.

You have beautiful solid oak floors....that is enough wood. Go for color......I like the pink you have ...it makes the room fun, interesting and ties nicely with the K chandelier. Colors in the RED spectrum encourages conversation which is what you want in a dining room.

What a steal! We have a dresser as a buffet in our dining room too and I LOVE it. Totally paint. Will this replace the bar height buffet that's in there now or be in addition to? Either way, I say go with the pinkish/redish color of that piece. Black introduces a 4th color to the room (oak floors/white table/pink buffet) which makes it a bit too ecclectic in my opinion. Browse YHL's website for refinishing ideas. Maybe new hardware or glass/fabric fronts on the doors? Fun project - can't wait to see how it turns out! (And super bonus points for all the extra storage you're gaining!)

Love those! We have a dresser that we need to paint also but it's so hard to just DO it! Good luck with whatever you decide!

An inside shot of the dresser is here. An inside shot of the armoire is here.

I say paint!! If they have a glossy finish on them you will have to sand them first though so the paint has sort of a rough surface to stick to. I failed to do this on our solid wood bathroom cabinets & the paint peeled & was sort of tacky in some spots where the drawers/doors hit the other wood - felt pads could help with this too! Great finds though!!!

I love these. It's a hard call. If the wood is in good condition I say no... maybe replace the hardware if possible. If the wood needs work I say paint... but not all white.

Fabulous -- am late weighing in, but definitely paint! Black or something bold, use glossy paint. Then post pictures!
