The Manipulative Little Schmooze

Although we keep Linus in a diaper at night and nap, he pretty much stays dry and we definitely celebrate this. Of course, he knows that staying dry is important to us, and that's why he can holler out "I have to go potty," and almost guarantee a response. It's his favorite trick at night, in the early morning, and to hustle Mommy up after nap.

This evening, after refusing to go on the potty before bed, "I don't have to go potty," not five minutes after being deposited in bed I heard the familiar refrain. Checking with my husband, I learned that he, in fact, had not gone before bed. Begrudgingly, I hustled him to the toilet.

In the bathroom is where he tried all his best tricks. From, "I'm still going," to "Why is the shower curtain white?" Tonight, when all other attempts failed, he decided to go for broke.

"I wuv you, Mommy."

"I love you too, Linus. Get your pajama pants on."

Feeling a bit defeated, he pulled out the big guns, batted his long eyelashes, and squeaked "I wuv you ta da moon, Mommy."

"I love you too, Linus. Now go to bed."

Of course, I loved hearing it. I'll never stop melting when I hear it, but I held strong and sent him back to bed. This mommy is a big enough push-over as is.

What are some of your kids' best tricks for avoiding bedtime? I'm thinking it's best if I'm prepared.

Ahh! SO sweet! Oscar is already learning this trick. Whenever he deliberately does something wrong, he runs over to me and gives me a kiss. They're good.

Adorable!! My little man only recently started the delay tricks. He asks for a drink usually. Or now that we're potty training he'll tell me he has to poop. Which he never does, but he knows it'll get him some potty time out of bed. Little stinkers.
