Where's the snooze button?

Imagine this: It's Sunday morning, you slowly awaken as the sun, now high in the sky, begins to defeat your blacked out windows. The aroma of fresh brewed coffee wafts in because you so smartly remembered to set it up last night. Now scratch that because this is reality.

It's Sunday morning at about 6:10AM. I am startled awake by a repetitive string of "Mama, Mama, Mama, Dada, Dada, Dada..." The coffee maker I, for once, remembered to preset hasn't even kicked on yet. Drowsily, I haul a screaming Linus into my bed hoping for a few minutes of peaceful snuggling. As I curl back up, I can almost taste sweet, sweet sleep right before the kiddo notices the cats. "Lala!" he screams right in my ear while clamoring over me to try to grab a handful of cat fur. Cat claws dig into my calf as the cat leaps from the bed. I wrestle Linus back down into a sleeper hold fighting for just a few minutes peace. Glancing over, I see Adrian doing his best impression of a dead man, hoping with all his might that I will just take the kid and go, after all it's Father's Day.

Instead, Linus has other plans for Daddy. It begins quietly, "Dada." It grows louder, "DaDA." As it reaches full volume, Adrian lets out a giant sigh, rolls over, and grumbles, "What?"

In his sweetest, most angelic little voice, Linus says, "Eat. Go," followed by a little nudge. A message very clearly stating, "Hey, lazybones, get out of bed and make me some breakfast."

My husband and I both like to "play dead" in hopes that the other one will give up and take the kids downstairs. Sometimes we take turns, but other days it's some strange battle of wills.

This is a familiar scene at our house, too, except I am the one who has perfected the dead man's pose. I copped out early on because "I'm not a morning person," and poor Billy's fate was sealed. Ah, well, I'll be called to duty plenty in another six months or so...

Good for Linus's, not falling for the sleeping daddy trick!

Blessings!
