From the day I stumbled upon a Baby Name book on the bookshelf, choosing names for my future children was always sort of a hobby. I honestly always had a running list of names I liked for both a boy and a girl.
The day of our 15 week ultrasound, where we learned that we were having a boy, Adrian and I rushed to Barnes and Noble and headed straight for the baby name books. I had my favorites (Tristan) and so did Adrian (Julian), but we felt the name we gave our baby had to be something we both loved and settled on together. So there we sat on the floor of Barnes and Noble suggesting names to each other. I'd say a name I liked "Oliver" and Adrian would respond with one he knew would annoy me "Banjo". This continued on for around 30 minutes until I stumbled upon "Linus". Turning to Adrian, I said, "How about Linus?" A huge smile spread across his face, and we had a winner.
Of course, we did a quick mental check for the main associations to the name Linus. The Peanuts character: thoughtful, passionate, cute. The developer of Linux: intelligent, forward thinking. Ocean's 11: Hello, Matt Damon. Not a bad association in the bunch. That settled it, he would be Linus.
Then I took a look at the meaning of the name Linus- Greek, meaning flax-colored. Uh oh, I thought. There's no way this baby is going to be blond. He'll for sure end up with dark colored hair like his daddy. I was hesitant but the name stuck. We loved it.
Of course, as we now know, Linus is indeed a blondie. I guess some things were just meant to be.

OK - this is spooky because I was just thinking of this as a blog post last night and now I'm reading this - we are so on the same page. I'll let you know when I have it up. Did you make the pumpkin martini yet?
