Linus's Book Club

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a reader. Okay, so he's not actually able to read (duh), but today Linus sat and looked at (and touched) his favorite books for at least 20 minutes. He pulled them down off the shelves and sat down to read. He turned pages, changed books, and enjoyed reading. I was in awe. Of course, as a former 1st grade teacher, I can not understate the importance of an early introduction to reading. We try to read at least 5 different books to Linus every day.

Some of his recommended reads are:

As you can see, most of his favorites are touch and feel books. Whenever we read anything else, he will touch the pages searching for the texture. He especially likes ones that involve textures other than fur. Touching fur is so two weeks ago.

I too love "The Monster at the End of This Book"! It's so fun to read. I'm glad to see that Linus enjoyed his books - 20 minutes is a long time!

My other favorites as a kid: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and In The Night Kitchen. Those are for kids a bit older though. :) Can't wait to share them with Linus.

I think we have both of those somewhere in my boxes upon boxes of picture books. Both are great. Monster was a super fave of my first graders. They loved to talk back at it. They did a similar thing with the Mo Willems pigeon books. We were able to find a board book copy of Monster so Linus can touch it which he was unable to do with the original golden book copy.

Wow! I remember reading Monster to my little cousin. We both loved it.

Do you guys have a copy of "Pat the Bunny"? That has some nice scratchy bits, as well as boring old fur! :)

No, we don't have Pat the Bunny... yet.
