Toddlers and Pronouns

It is amazing the way that language develops in children. One day your toddler is speaking in the third person, "Linus do it," and only using pronouns when mimicking his parent, "Hurt you," or "Carry you." The next day, that same toddler suddenly corrects himself saying things like, "I stumbled," or "I take sock off," and even starts experimenting with other pronouns, "I play with his (meaning my) truck."

I know when I took Spanish, the teacher could have gone on for weeks about pronouns and I'd still have to run through all the options before she'd sigh and just let met go to the bathroom.

I love to hear them speak. Ella will say "that hers? (meaning yours)" when she's speaking to me about something that's mine. I love it. So cute that I'd love to say "yes, that hers", but I correct her for fear that I might hinder her development if I don't. Enjoy these years...they are the BEST!

I remember being thrilled the day my sons first used prepositions! Must be the teacher in us!

Oh no! No more "Linus can't move" and "Linus here!" ? His final Christmas thing arrived today - I'll call you Friday to drop it off. Hope he likes it!

I've been thinking the same thing recently. My son has started playing around with pronouns and such too.....they change daily, I swear.

I love this, too. My favorite (that both kids have done) is the toddler standing in front of me, arms outstretched, saying, "Hold you?" I know she really means "hold me now, woman" -- but it always sounds a little like "mommy, would you like for me to hold you? you look like you could use a hug."
