Political Blogging

I admit it. I am very apprehensive about venturing into political discussions. I guess I generally avoid such discussions not because I don't have an opinion but because I'm a sell-out suffering from low self-esteem with anger and time management issues. That's right... I'm a regular pundit waiting to happen.

1. Low self-esteem- I've always doubted my knowledge. I'm the kind of person who knows enough to know that I don't know it all -by far-. I avoid debates on topics I am not fully informed about.

2. Sell-out- I know that my strong opinions would certainly piss people off and since I have a limited number of readers, I really need all the traffic I can get.

3. Anger/Time management issues- Every time I feel inspired enough to wax political, I'm usually so worked up that I can barely type on the keyboard much less put together a coherent post. Then by the time I calm down, there's laundry to be folded and a toddler to chase.

On top of it, I'm pretty aware that my words will be reacted to one of two ways: with a roll of the eyes at the crazy, socialist liberal or with a hear, hear from like minds. On most political issues, people have their lines and they refuse to have an intelligent discussion. I'm always open to intelligent discussion provided that facts are involved and not just gut feelings or anecdotes.

I say all this mainly because I'm jealous. I'm jealous because I would love to be able to write fantastic posts about current topics like these fellow Triangle Mamas.

Cyndi on Redistricting Public Schools
Cindy on Gun Control

Do read them, comment (it's like crack for a blogger), and be wary of a time when I finally have the courage to get political.

I like the political posts too - we talk about a lot of those issues in my cross-cultural class this semester and I think blogging is good but some of those discussions are best in person. Did you know that Wake is expecting only a 10% voter turnout on the 6th?! Ridiculous. I wish I could vote there.

Thanks for the love. I have the exact same three problems you have, which is why it took me a month to write that post.
