Type A Mom Conference

I avoided blogging yesterday. I could give the excuse that it was because I had 4 huge piles of laundry, a sick toddler, a filthy house, and conference exhaustion but that wouldn't be the truth.

The truth is I wanted to write something profound about my recent experience at the Type A Mom Conference. If I couldn't do profound, because I don't really do profound, I wanted to at least be funny. But being funny takes a whole lot of effort inspiration and let's face it, I wouldn't ever be as funny as some of the amazing women I met at the conference.

In addition to all this self-imposed pressure, every time I sat down to sum up the experience, it quickly became a love letter. A love letter to Marty. Marty, with whom I spent nearly four days and never once ran out of stuff to talk about. I guess, in some ways, that's the disadvantage to social media... that you're limited to just how much screen time your eyes will tolerate.

So I guess I'll sum up the rest of the experience in four short question and answers.

Was it fun?
Absolutely. Even for a wallflower like me.

Did I meet lots of people?
Yes, but not everyone who I would have liked to. I have a hard time just walking up to someone and introducing myself.

Who'd ya meet that you loved?
What's the one best thing you took away from the conference?
I discovered that despite my original apprehensions about cliques, gossip, political differences, and general sorority behavior, I need female friends and I'm pretty sure I have some great ones.

Another wallflower here. There were several people I really wanted to meet who ended up being surrounded by crowds I just couldn't jump into. There were other women who I thought would be way too popular to talk to me who I ended up having a great time with.

Overall, the whole thing was fantastic, and I'm really glad I was there for the very first one :)

Great post! I loved the conference too and even during my wallflower moments I still felt comfortable and like I belonged.

Sounds like it was a lot of fun! I have really enjoyed reading all the recaps so it's like a gift that keeps on giving :-)

Another wallflower here! I kept thinking that everyone at the conference already knew each other but me! LOL Sorry I didn't get to visit with you. We could have sat at the table with Melissa and Kristie (not sure I met Kristie). Very cute banana theme you have going on here! I also was impressed with the way everyone got along even if they were opposites in every way. We really have a lot more common ground than we realize - it was great to discover that.

Blog on!

I was laughing at how we just kept talking until one of us fell asleep - like it was a junior high sleep over all weekend long :)

I think it was the perfect conference for wallflowers. It was small enough to manage anxiety, and it seemed to attract the nicest people. Seriously. I met the nicest bloggers. It was such a great weekend!

It sounds like it was so much fun!! I hope I can make it to one of these conferences, someday! This one sounds great since it was small and I think you write really fun, thought provoking posts :)

Thanks! I had a great time too! The thing about the "cliques" is there are women that started blogs together, share experiences with each other, etc. But they are always so welcoming to others. That is what this whole thing is about.

Glad to have met you!

Hi there,

Thanks for the shoutout, and right back at you. I turned up at this conference sans makeup and decent wardrobe (as you could have clearly seen and the pics of the conference are a sad reminder too) just to make a point to myself that I could not absorb all the drama of BlogHer. I wanted to just relax and hangout and meet people.

No running for president, that would be too lonely a position :-) I would rather just hang with the girls .

Thrilled we have met!
