I finally made sugar cookies. I'd been meaning to make some since before Christmas. First, they were going to be Christmas cookies, then inauguration cookies (using circles to create O's), and ultimately they were Valentine's cookies.
They weren't just any Valentine's cookies, though, they were Love Bugs. After receiving my "Cookie of the Day" email from Martha, I saw cookies made using a ladybug cutter and lots of piped hearts to create Love Bugs. The exciting part was that I actually had that exact ladybug cookie cutter. I found it on clearance at Macy's last Fall. Therefore, I just HAD to make Love Bugs (and hearts too). Afterall, I often refer to my little guy as my Love Bug.
Anyway, I got the cookies all made (with Linus's help actually) and was about to make frosting for us to decorate them. It was just gonna be the usual quick and easy powdered sugar, milk, and food coloring. Except when I went to get the food coloring, my mommy guilt kicked in. After all the articles I've read suggesting a relationship between food dyes and hyperactivity, I wasn't sure I wanted to color the frosting.
Luckily, inspiration hit and I was able to allay my paranoia and still have festive Love Bugs. I simply went to the fridge and found a jar of strawberry All-Fruit. Stirring that into the frosting added a nice if somewhat subtle color to the frosting and provided a delicious hint of strawberry to boot.

We made a cake--with food coloring in the frosting. We're all a little jittery still...
Those look divine! And so pretty.

Those looke tasty! I'm interested in seeing the ladybugs, too. Your very creative. I wouldn't have thought to use all-fruit.
That is genius! Whenever I get back to Raleigh you are going to have to come over and show me how to make sugar cookies. I have TONS of cookie cutters I am dying to use, but only one batch(of a gazillion) of my sugar cookies has ever been edible and even then it didn't quite taste like sugar cookie....
